WebVis – Visualization of the own surfing behaviour

The task was the development of an interface for the illustration of mass data. Among other aspects, the quality of a software depends on the ease of use. The restriction of the illustration of mass data is relevant because it is difficult to capture all information.

Motivation

We chose this theme because of the missing software support at this point of time and the high benefits of such a software support. We were focused on solving two separate problems. On the on hand we aimed at detecting websites of the browsing history that had not been saved. On the other hand the considering of the own search path is relevant for academic research. The first picture demonstrates the poor solution of browser manufacturers.

Description of a solution

There are two different viewing modes. The session browser demonstrates all surfing sessions and provides different selection tools for the handling of the information flood. Due to the successive exclusion of irrelevant information, it is possible to find the desired information. After the locating of the desired session, the MindMap viewer can be used. The MindMap viewer is responsible for the visualisation of the whole history of a session. There are two paradigms that influence the whole interface. On the on hand similar activities cause the same effect. On the other hand there are many illustrations of information that are visual and not textual.
